There are a LOT of adds, sales pitches, gimmicks, and over all "stuff" being thrown at people all the time via the internet, social media, business presentations and everything else. When you're creating a facebook status update, a twitter tweet, a presentation, a speaking engagement etc ASK YOURSELF this question. Why should anyone listen to you with so much other Noise out there? What is different about you and your product? What's different about your presentation? If your status update, or presentation, or exposure blends in with all the other noise then odds are you won't get any interested people to look at what you're doing.
I went to a speed networking event today in a nearby town. I have never been to one before so I wasn't sure what to expect but I was adaptable and I know my stuff so that's fine. It was basically a large group of network marketers and business type people promoting their product or service; looking for business partners. I'm going to guess there was probably at least a 100 people in attendence all trying to get each other to join their business or buy their product. We were divided up into about 15 tables, about 5 or 6 people to a table. Every 15 minutes or so we'd have to go to another table and meet a whole new 5 or 6 people. We all visited a total of 4 tables at 5 or 6 people per table. Each of us at our respective table got about a minute and a half to give our presentation to the rest of the table.
So that's the setting and how it all worked. Here is the strategy I employed to stand out in front of the noise and it worked so please read this and absorb :-)
Right away I noticed common patterns everyone was doing so I looked for ways to do it differently and more attractively. Here is what I noticed and what I did to be different in an attractive way.
1. No one stood when it was their turn. They all stayed seated for their minute and a half presentation to the table. So to me this was a no brainer. I will stand when it's my turn! At each of my four tables when it was my turn I stook up enthusiastically with GREAT posture and let as much poor out as I could in my alloted time. I spoke passionately, almost shouting like, making eye contact, and letting everyone know that I was different than the rest of the noise.
2. No one clapped when each speaker was finished. So I clapped. People generally followed suit with me which was nice. Since I was the one initiating that kind of courtesy I was more noticeble in the midst of all the noise.
3. At the end everyone was asked to stand up, state their name and what they represent. Every single person got up and said, "John doe with company XYZ". When it was my turn I shouted, "My name is Tom Birkenmeyer and I'm an Independent Team Beachbody Coach!!! I'm helping lots of people earn lots of Money and sharing Enormous Health benfits with everyone who wants Health and Wealth! Talk to me!" As I did this I was very animated, lots of face expressions and hand gestures all in about 10 seconds :-) People noticed me in front of all that noise!
The end result for the day is that I was able to gather at least one or two conctacts at each of the four tables for a total of 7 people. I had lots of third party toosl there (i.e. decide DVDs, Solutions DVDs, Shakeology Breakthrough DVDs) and some Shakeology Sample packets in which I sold two of at cost along with free recipe cards for the two who bought the sample packets. I also had p90x single serving recovery packets that no one was interested. They don't know what they are missing with those. At each table I just sprawled all that stuff out in front of me on the table for all to see. I also stood out in this area because everyone else just had a business card or a pamplet. Not me, I had all that other stuff you just read about :-)
I hope you found the read to be insightful! If you would like to brain storm any of this with me; how to stand out in front of the noise that is out there, don't hesitate to call or write me!
