My First Home Party" by Stan Szeto

Team Passion Independent Team Beachbody coach Stan Szeto had some great success hosting a home party so I asked him if he wouldn't mind sharing with the rest of us so we can get some great ideas for doing our own :-)

Do some house partys!

I especially love how Stan got his guests to participate in the whole thing and took them on this emotional roller coaster ride that got them to see the importance of good nutrition and exercise.  It inspired some people to step up and take more control over their lives using team beachbody products!  Thank you for sharing some of your insight with us Stan!  I'm going to try some of these ideas at my next home party.

Everyone thank Stan :-)  Feel free to friend up with him.  We should be interacting more with each other so we can learn!  The team passion philosophy is Individually we have more questions than answers but together we have all the answers!

Tom

p.s. If you have any insight or wisdom you'd like to share that the rest of the team may be able to benefit from please let me know!

Stan Szeto: My First Beachbody Home Party
One of the things that I learned from doing Beachbody is that knowledge comes from a variety of sources. These sources are what you make out of them and eventually helps you create wealth of both financial and knowledge. After I spoke with Soon-To-Be Diamond Coach Tom Birkenmeyer, I decided to share what I have learned and what I could have done better with my presentation.

Here is my story:

So after setting up the table about 2 hours way in advance, I start to receive phone calls from people saying that they can't show up for this reason or that. Granted, ALL of those calls were valid reasons, I didn't make any excuses for myself and hopped on the phone right away to see if others will show. After about an hour passed by, some of the people who initially said they were coming did, so a lot of work calling others was almost for nothing. I say "almost" because the reality is that even though they couldn't come today, they do know about the Beachbody Home Party and all of them asked "What's that?" Hmm..glad you asked! Lemme tell ya a little bit about it ;-)

Here is the setup:

Yes...I am a little more tech savvy than most. The TV was moved from another room since the dining room area was big enough to host the event. As you can see, some of the material are laid out in front of the TV. This was done on purpose because when they're not paying attention to me or the TV, they are still going to look forward. Since they're looking forward, they can scan what is available on the tables. So there's Shakeology on the left with the shaker cups (which I received a lot of comments about - from compact to cute) and the P90X on the right along with the protein bars and Recovery Drink.

The middle of the table had the different types of bands available for them to try, in which, they did. And there are some DVDs and papers, along with my business card right dab in the middle, in front of the TV. Several cooking recipe books from Beachbody were also out. Towards the end, you can tell who the cooks were because they looked through it.

The back of the TV hid all of the un-sightly things:

The laptop that ran the slideshow (I was using a MacBook Pro with Keynote - which is the Apple equivalent of Powerpoint). Everything I was controlled by my USB clicker that advanced my slideshow presentation.

So Sunday, 2pm was the time and people were ready to go. One couple was late but like I had read in the back office, start on time because it is not fair for the others to have to wait for one person to show. So I did. I did a quick intro of myself since all of them knew me...but what I also did was that I requested that everyone introduce themselves to other people since not everyone knew each other. It was one of my tricks that I use when doing presentations. People, in general, LOVE to talk about themselves and their accomplishments. Even though they don't want to talk in groups most of the time, but if you give them an opportunity to share what they know, most will do it. This was very critical because this allowed them to feel more comfortable with each other, especially when some of them learned that they had a few things in common.

Once the basic introductions were finished, I went into the slideshow. The slideshow was a combination of numerous resources that I received from Tom Birkenmeyer and my coach, Melanie Bolen. Also many helpful hints from Mike Thompson and Deryl Williams on how to put one together. I looked through all of them, and as great as the slides were, there wasn't that personal touch that came from "me".

So, the slideshow started off with that image you see on the TV above, then proceeded with the introduction screen where I asked them to give their name, reason why they are here, and rate their fitness and nutrition from 1 to 10, with 10 being the best. Then my next slide was a quote from Ralph Marston, Author and Publisher who said, "There are plenty of difficult obstacles in your path. Don't allow yourself to become one of them." After that, I played the video of Carrie, who has MS and how she didn't let MS stop her from being who she was.

At this time, people were a little emotional because they realized that someone with MS was able to do great things and here they are, completely able and mobile, aren't doing what they should be doing as they had initially said during their introductions.

I went into a little statistics about gyms and how much money they make and how it doesn't work...then threw in Beachbody and what makes Beachbody works is the support network that we have that others dont. After that, I proceeded to introduce what Beachbody was and the man in charge, Carl Daikeler, CEO of Beachbody. From there, I showed percentage of obsiety in the US and how we can change the obsiety with proper diet. This is where Shakeology came in. I showed the Shakeology video and a few comparison slides of Shakeology vs. Starbucks, Jamba Juice, McDonalds, etc along with costs per servings. Introduced other recipes and ultimately the workout programs that Beachbody has to offer.

I have two quick slides after that which talks about Coaching because I didn't want to overwhelm them. I debated whether i should mention the difference between our business vs. a "pyramid scheme" but I decided to talk about it and I'm glad I did because a lot of them were more relieved afterwards. I can see them squirm back in their chairs when I brought up the business aspect. So I'm glad I diffused that bomb quickly.

The last video I showed was from the Coach Tools video and it was so powerful because towards the end, Carl Daikeler says:

"There's a couple of decisions that you can make right now. What am I going to do with this DVD when I'm done watching it? Are you going to hand it back to the person who gave this to you and say, 'Not for me,' or are you going to take a moment and say, 'How different could my life be if I change things?'"

After that, I show another slide with two quotes. One quote was from Craig Holiday, "You're in this for yourself but not by yourself."

At the bottom, another quote pops up from Walter Gagehot, "A pleasure in life is doing what people say you cannot do."

Then, in the middle of the slide, I show my before and after pic.

I pause my speech (because there is power in the pause) and then I continue off by saying "So many people, both family and friends, have told me that I cannot do this. But look at me now." as I pointed at my before and after. I paused again and looked at the group. I could see a lot of them start to feel defeated...and then that is when I inspired them and told them that I was glad they doubted me because it gave me the fire and that desire to do well. I told them that they can make that difference within themselves and that the support network is there...which is me and everyone else in Beachbody.

Once that ended, all of us got up and had samples of Shakeology, Recovery Formula, and the protein bar.

The result:

Of the five people that showed up, one signed for Coach along with Shakeology HD, one signed up for Shakeology HD, and two others plan on Shakeology HD very soon.

Mixing Technology with Beachbody:
So one of the things that I did with the money I made from Beachbody was that I went out and bought an iPad. Yes...Beachbody ultimately made me able to afford one!! So, while talking about Coaching, I mentioned that in the two or so months that I have been actively doing the business portion of Beachbody, I was able to afford it. I took the iPad and raised it up in the air. Many admired it.

At the very end, I allowed the to use the iPad and look through my site:

www.beachbodycoach.com/stan

From there, they sifted through the site, using the most latest technology available. So I think mixing my Beachbody business with technology made them realize that this is possible for them as well. Many admired the the iPad but all of them admired using the iPad to place the orders.

I thought about using my iPad for the brains of the operation but I realized that there is currently no audio output to put into the TV. Boo! But that's okay. I'm sure a fix is coming up for that really soon.

What I learned:
- The pause is a powerful tool. When used right at the right moments, it can have dramatic effect.
- I can improve by speaking to each of them more directly than as a group.
- I should have concluded the presentations with "Any questions?" Most won't have questions addressed to you in front of an audience since they'll approach you after its all done anyway but its a good way to let them know that the presentation will be over.
- Giving them an opportunity to speak in the beginning was critical because it allowed them to "show off" what they knew, which was important to make them feel more comfortable.
- My pace, sometimes I went too fast, sometimes too slow.
- Making the presentation "your own" is important so that it doesn't look like a cookie-cutter presentation.
- Using all resources available to you is extremely valuable.

Any comments or suggestions is greatly appreciated!
