Got some coaches who wanted to build big and doing something totally different? Have you tried to motivate, motivate, motivate, and have no results from it?
Stop motivating them!
Let them know you're here when they're serious about doing what they said they were going to do and spend that time talking to new people, prospecting, and bringing more willing people into your team. I've found that trying to motivate people almost never works. And when it does its for five minutes because they have no vision or purpose. They who need motivation every step of the way have no understand of the consequences of their inaction. They will just suck up your time, if you let them, when you could be out there prospecting and looking for long term business developers.
Leaders are created on their own! You don't need to sell them on it they have already sold it to themselves! Your job is to NOT demotivate those who understand the consequences of their inaction. There is a BIG chasm between “I want” and “I will”. VERY few will actually follow through and do what it takes to make that happen.
Use the system to develop leadership in people where it’s creating the desire for them to grow. Lets put it this way, you can’t spend time in a community of people who are growing and doing something extraordinary with their lives and not wanna do something great with your own life. You can’t hang around non excuse makers and wanna stay the same. Stick around a powerful atmosphere long enough and something happens you cant help yourself because environment is everything and we are a product of our environment. Hang out with committed people you get committed. Hang out with lazy people and you become lazy. You need to hang out in communities like this and plug your fellow long term business developers into communities like this!
Not everyone wants to go where you wanna go. You meet them where they are at. Learn to find out what matters to them and close them on their own goals. If they are serious you will not have to motivate them because they've sold themselves thanks to your leadership! If they join your team because they've been convinced to join then you have someone you have to motivate. yuk!!
Leadership is developed two fold. A.) environment. B.) It's your job to find out what matters to them and close them on that so they have sold themselves on why they must do this according to their own "WHY". It's your job to keep them on track, encourage them, support them, plug them into a system and an atmosphere. Its their job to SHOW UP every day and do the work consistently. It's their job to stay plugged in and stay in a teachable state. It's their job to Invest in themselves and be welcoming of continuous correction and re correction. They take one step you take two steps. They take two you take four. They disappear you disappear. Match their efforts and teach them to be Deserving of your time. Your time is NOT available by need but by deserve so as a leader the burden is to teach your team mates how to DESERVE your time.
You got started cause your dreams are pretty big. The only thing between where you’re at now and where you wanna go is skill. Here is where you’re going to get the skill its your job to be driven by your dream, your purpose, and show up every day to increase your skill and apply what you learn so you can move toward your dream.
Think about who you hang out with all the time and who you’re surrounded by. Is there a lot of lacking in commitment?
